One of my favorite Roman neighborhoods just became even more awesome: Contesta Rockhair opened on Thursday in Testaccio. Tanti Auguri to Elena and Alice, the wonder women (literally!) who run the show. I had the pleasure of stopping by on day one because I thought a blowout was in order for my forthcoming Florence trip, and I owe a big thanks to my friend Elena for making my hair so shiny & straight & bouncy! I looked like I stepped out of a L’Oreal ad. But I digress….
Located on Via Amerigo Vespucci–just off Via Marmorata–(a few steps away from the Tiber & a VERY short walk to 00100!!), the intimate salon is cozy and hip, complete with 1970’s adornments that include kaleidoscope-like wallpaper and floral couches to evoke the idea of visiting a 1970’s Italian home. With the exception of a handful of mainstay pieces, all of the vintage furniture–which has been salvaged from here and there specifically for Contesta–is for sale. So if the marble-topped wooden cabinet tickles your fancy and you have a strong hankering to own it, you can. Pretty cool, huh?
Be sure call on Elena and Alice if you’re in the ‘hood! (Contesta Rockhair Testaccio; Via Amerigo Vespucci, 23; 00153 Roma; 065754323, http://www.contestarockhair.com)
I can’t wait to check it out! I saw Elena on her last day in Monti for a trim. I’m so excited for her (and she told me the music will be on a lower volume in the new space. heh).
Awesome!

@arlene quieter music would be a real plus!
