Living in Milan, And So it Goes

Oh my goodness gracious! I can’t believe it’s been nearly ten months since I’ve posted on my dear little ‘ole blog.  I know I’ve lapsed in the past but this seems like an overly extended sabbatical. However, my cyber absence can be interpreted as a good thing! I’m still living in Milan and am beyond grateful for the work I have found, most of which is writing therefore leaving me with less idle time and something just had to give and alas, it was my personal blog. I’ve been slammed–even terribly overwhelmed at times–but I’m not complaining. It’s a good problem to have.

I’ve also been preoccupied with my nifty little apartment. My not-so-new-anymore Milan bachelorette pad is the first place I have lived in Italy that was done, for lack of a better word, formally (meaning with a real estate broker and in no way, shape or form am I trying to imply that anywhere else I have lived was improper). I have two tiny balconies…I can’t entertain al fresco, but I find their mere existence extremely gratifying, particularly because they are on either side of my non-air-conditioned apartment and provided exceptional cross-ventilation during this summer’s scorching heatwave.  I am tickled pink that my bedroom balcony has a view of the Alps…a mountain range that has held some degree of intrigue for me since childhood. The idea of “the Alps” had always just fascinated me. In fact, after my flight landed on my first-ever Italy trip during my semester in London, everyone (except me!) was abuzz about the sweeping aerial Alpine vista that I had regrettably missed because I was catching some Z’s. The first time I flew into Milan during my fateful January 2012 “big Italy trip”, I took extra care not to miss them as we approached Malpensa. Now–weather permitting–I can see the Alps every day. Who would have thunk it?!

So, in case you’re wondering about my apartment, it’s coming along swimmingly…I have been furnishing it little-by-little (baby steps!), but it’s still lacking loads. Not only do I want to splurge  on all sorts of gorgeous colorful–yet highly functional!–kitchen and tabletop objects at Funky Table, but I am eager for a new couch. No, I’m not couchless….my sparsely furnished digs came with a futon couch, but I want a real one from IKEA with a sturdy pull-out bed–as well as some throw carpets, wall decorations and a KitchenAid Artisan Stand Mixer (on my), among many, many other items.

Anyhoo, that’s all I have for now, but I promise I’ll write more frequently…I’m aiming for once a week (at least). Fingers crossed I can do it!
