Cantine Isola in Chinatown, one of Milan's best wine bars

It’s no secret how much I adore Chinatown in Milan. In fact, I live close enough to it that if I were going to move, the proximity to Chinatown would be a deciding factor for my new digs.

Cantine Isola, a wine bar in Chinatown, is one of my favorite places in Milan and I suggest it all time to anyone looking to meet for a drink. I swear this isn’t just because of its close proximity to my apartment but rather for its unparalleled awesomeness.

Firstly, the enoteca sits on a pedestrian only street called Via Paolo Sarpi, the heart of Milan’s Chinatown. There’s a covered outdoor seating area but during the warm weather months, the crowd spills into the space in front.  The owners place extra chairs outside and the conviviality is just gorgeous. People sip their wine, toast, chat, enjoy life.

They’re aperitivo is awesome. With your glass of wine, you get to take your pick from their spread that includes a multitude of crostini and prepared vegetables. The inside is tiny and since so many people are outside, they help facilitate your ability to nosh on some of the goodies by passing them around outside.

I always suggest getting there early so that you can get a seat either inside or outside. When it’s raining or cold, everyone crowds inside and while the vibe is lively, it can be a bit stifling.

Also, if I need to grab a bottle of wine, this is where I go. They have a great selection of Italian biodynamic producers as well as some great French ones in the back.

Not only do they stay open for the entire month of August when most of the city is on ferie (holidays), but they are also open 15 August, the national holiday of Ferragosto.
