For the Love of Black Mascara

Best Mascaras to buy A Signorina in Milan

I have a thing for red lipstick and blowouts, but there’s another beauty product that I’m super obsessed with: Mascara. I’ve been through countless tubes and even own multiple as some are more fitting for different occasions. My eyelashes are not naturally curly so I must say, the Shu Umera eyelash curler is the eyelash curler to end all eyelash curlers, though this is no secret to my fellow make-up enthusiasts. The curler is  a miracle worker in and of itself, as once it’s done its job, it literally opens up your eyes. The best mascaras only enhance these perfectly curled eyelashes. and it’s hard to select just one for what I think are the best mascaras, so in no particular order, are five of my favorites.

  1. Nars Black Moon Audacious: This mascara boasts one serious brush that I don’t only love because it’s red, but because its 200 bristles literally just latch on your eyelashes, apply a sturdy coat that separates, lengthens and even boosts them up. ($26/€26)
  2. Too Faced Better than False Eyelashes: Yes, I love, love, love fake eyelashes. When the occasion presents itself, I’ll always get the lashes glued on. Some people are great at putting them on themselves while I, on the other hand, am not. Too Faced Better than False Eyelashes is the best mascara for like-minded false eyelash lovers. It comes with two tubes and requires three steps: Coat your lashes with Mascara; then cover them with the nylon fibers in the second smaller tube; and finally, add a coat of the mascara from step one to that. The extension looks natural and makes your eyes pop. ($35/€33)
  3. YSL Beauty Volume Effet Faux Cils Baby Doll Mascara: Firstly, seeing baby doll written in cursive red font on the typical gold YSL tube is appealing eye candy in and of itself, and initially drew me to the tube. Yet, in addition to the smart design, what makes this mascara cool is also its brush. This brush has many bristle lengths and is designed to get every last lash, even the smaller one. This is a great every day mascara for anyone who doesn’t want a dramatic look. ($32/€31,50)
  4. Givenchy Noir Couture Volume Mascara: The two toned black and white, seemingly figure-eight-shaped bristles, of this mascara caught my eye in Duty Free, which are supposed to be add volume and and definition respectively. The special formula is said to revitalize your lashes, which is bound to pique one’s interest as that’s not a term you usually here every day. ($33/€30,50)
  5. Dior’s Diorshow Blackout: I’ve been a fan of Diorshow mascara since my waitressing days, but the Diorshow Blackout brings it to a whole new level. I love, love, love, the look of kohl eyeliner (though I’m not always great at applying it), and this adds the effects of kohl to your lashes. Dramatic, intense, awesome. ( $28.50 /€31,90)

I haven’t yet tried but am super curious about Givenchy’s Phenomen’Eyes with a ball shaped brush, YSL Beauty’s The Shock, and Too Faced’s Better than Sex
